Slingbox® M1
It's your TV...and then some.

If there's any way to get more out of your TV, and expand the TV-watching experience, leave it to Team Slingbox to find it. And we did. With the M1. Is your team playing the final game in the series at the same time your kid's playing T-ball? Watch 'em both! It doesn't mean you're distracted. It means you're engaged in multi-tasking. (See what we did there?)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loving it! Had Belkin @TV (rebadged Monsoon Vulkano) box for five years prior to this which worked well at minimal cost ($70 with no incremental cost for aps). Crippled now due to Belkin shutting down server support, forcing me back into shopping for a new solution. Stumbled on to Slingbox M1 and (so far at least) could not be happier! This has much more flexibility in resolution (up through HD) than Monsoon/Belkin units, though HD obviously requires higher bitrates. The free Slingplayer aps work really well. I don't care about the ads (more noticeable in Desktop and web players than mobile versions; Android and Kindle Fire versions in my case). Many of the video ads are tech-oriented and thus interesting to me, but you can also skip them too after a few seconds. The static ads in the margins of non-full-screen display in the Desktop and web players are not objectionable since, after adjusting settings, I'm going back into ad-free full-screen mode for continued viewing. If ad revenue helps sustain Sling's operation and support, I'm OK with it! Mildly annoying but understandable. I like Slingplayer for Desktop a lot. I'm glad the M1 supports that for viewing; thus, I consider the M1 the preferred box. My network is a bit convoluted, with two routers, and I've set up port forwarding in both, but so far remote access hasn't seemed too sensitive to that. Surprisingly, due to the slick operation of the Slingplayer aps, the true full-screen mode, and high resolution with higher bitrates, I'm using the Slingbox around the house much more than I did with the Belkin @TV. Can't wait to see how it performs from our low-bitrate cabin. But at this point, could not be happier!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from OBSOLETE TIVO IR LOVE SLINGBOX - but love my TIVO more-- and Now that all TIVO works with RF signals--- my Slingbox M1 is obsolete? - NO word from Sling Media on offering an adapter or even a new unit that works with the new TIVO-s MY entire purpose for Slingbox was to access my TIVO while away from home-- TIVO BOLT is huge upgrade over my old Series 2 - but I can't use my SOLO or my M1 with the BOLT -- Sling is dragging behind and losing thousands of potentials sales- WHY?!?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product but could be better I have had a couple of Slimboxes and the M1 is an improvement to the older version I had as it has WIFI. However it doesn't have an HDMI connection which in this day and age is incredible. Also while the ads disappear in full screen mode they shouldn't be there when you pay good money for the kit. Overall it is certainly worth having if you are away from home a lot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works very well if set up properly I noticed reviews that call the product garbage. Dropped signals etc. First make sure you have good equipment at your end. I make sure I have a good signal from the cable box. The cable box must put out a strong signal to be split. Second, make sure you have a good router. Some of the cable company supplied routers can be older technology. Make sure you are using latest firmware for your router. Dropped signals would be a router problem, not the M1. Make sure your upload speed is adequate. I run FIOS at one and and DSL at my vacation home. I also run a standrd signl, not hi def. Note the DSL speed the player works but its not as clear. The software adjusts to the conditions so I get usable video but its not hi-def. I play my slingbox on my iPad. I paid for the app. It is well worth it. At work I use one of the older Slingplayer programs. Using the website logging on method will get you a lot of ads. What would you prefer? Slingbox does not charge an annual fee so would you rather watch ads or pay an annua fee?
