Sling Media’s Slingbox™ Greeted with Critical Acclaim as Company Ramps Production in Support of Fall Retail Expansion

SAN MATEO, CASeptember 14, 2005 — Sling Media, Inc., a digital lifestyle consumer electronics products company, today reported the rollout of the Slingbox was met with critical acclaim from both customers and industry pundits alike. While customers have enthusiastically embraced the Slingbox, turning their PCs at home, at work, and everywhere in between, into personal televisions, Sling Media has added numerous industry accolades to its cache of awards.

Most recently, Sling Media was named to the 2005 Pulver 100, the VoIP industry’s premier listing of privately held growth companies representing the future of the communications ecosystem. The product received a five out of five rating from Computer Power User and was named the “must-have” gadget of 2005. The company received a Mobile Innovations Award from LAPTOP Magazine and was named as a “must-have” product on TechLiving Magazine’s 2005 HOT LIST. Finally, the Slingbox has consistently appeared on a number of lists since its launch in July, including: First Half MVP, Best of 2005 rewind and fast-forward; Top 100 products list, August 2005 as the best entertainment networking product; and consistently on the Top 10 must-have gadgets list.

The Slingbox is a breakthrough consumer electronics product that enables consumers to watch their living room TV programming from wherever they are by turning virtually any Internet-connected Windows-based laptop or desktop PC into a personal TV. The Slingbox redirects, or “placeshifts,” a single live TV stream from a cable box, satellite receiver, or digital video recorder (DVR) to the viewer’s PC–located anywhere in the home or anywhere in the world, via the Internet.

Sling Media Store Opens

Sling Media also announced the formal opening of its online store in support of its retail expansion strategy, now that production has met customer demand. The Slingbox can be purchased online at for $249.99 and does not include any new or on-going monthly service fees.

“We are delighted to be able to offer the Slingbox directly from our online shop now that our retail partners are fully stocked,” Krikorian added. “But our retail expansion doesn’t stop there so stay tuned and you’ll see the Slingbox appear in a significant number of new retail outlets online and nationwide just in time for the holiday-buying season.”

The Slingbox first became available nationwide in late June through major consumer electronics retail chains CompUSA and Best Buy and their online counterparts and Since then, consumers have found creative ways to experience their living room TV when they’re not in their living room – from a hotel room 3,000 miles away from home, while at work, especially during breaking news, or simply in another part of their home not serviced by a television.
