Raghu Tarra, Senior Vice President and General Manager
Raghu is one of the original members of Sling Media and is responsible for formulating the company's overall vision and strategy necessary for Sling to continue its pace of rapid growth and expansion. Raghu joined Sling Media in 2004 as VP of Engineering, where he ran worldwide engineering from Foster City, CA, to Bangalore, India.
Raghu has more than 20 years of experience building and managing geographically distributed and cost-effective engineering teams, and he holds multiple patents in the video streaming and networking domain.
His career started at GEC ALSTHOM (now AREVA) in 1989, where he was responsible for the development and introduction of digital protection relays and switchgear for power system protection. In 1998, Raghu became one of the founding members of RealChip Communications, Inc, where he led the team that introduced a System on a Chip media processor to support Voice and Video over Internet Protocol applications. In 2002, he joined Infineon Technologies North America Corp as Director for Software Applications, leading their efforts in broadband access domain applications in the enterprise and consumer space.
Raghu has an M.S. in Electronics and Control Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science and a B.E. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Coimbatore Institute of Technology.
Ilya Asnis, Vice President of Engineering
As Vice President of Engineering for Sling Media, Ilya Asnis is responsible for managing the engineering organization and ensuring that we build successful products. He originally joined Sling Media in 2006 as the Director of Embedded Software.
With over 15 years in engineering management and leadership roles, Ilya has expertise in the design, implementation, and optimization of video compression algorithms, streaming protocols, and video delivery systems. He also holds multiple patents in the area of compression and streaming.
Prior to joining Sling Media, Ilya was Director of Engineering for XVD Corporation and Director of Software Engineering at Digital Stream USA (formerly RightBits and Alaris), where he led the development of innovative hardware and software products based on proprietary compression technology. He was also the supervisor of the Information Processing Laboratory at the State University of Aerospace Instrumentation in St Petersburg, Russia, where he was responsible for developing video compression, error-correcting codes, and public-key cryptography.
Before becoming supervisor at the State University of Aerospace Instrumentation, Ilya was a Ph.D. candidate, and he received his M.S. in Computer Science there as well. Ilya's hobby is complaining to friends about not having one.
Paddy Rao, Vice President of Product Management
Paddy Rao leads the Product Management group at Sling Media, and is responsible for the company's overall product strategy and roadmap, as well as product delivery. Prior to assuming this role, Paddy was responsible for launching and managing Sling Media's OEM product line.
Paddy came to Sling Media from Thomson (now Technicolor), where he was Vice President of the company's set-top box engineering organization, servicing pay TV operators on four continents. Before Thomson, Paddy was the CEO of Grundig Digital Systems, a Silicon Valley-based subsidiary of Grundig A.G. and Intel Capital. Grundig Digital Systems was subsequently acquired by Thomson. Paddy also held senior management roles at TV/COM and at Hyundai Electronics America. He started his career as a Staff Scientist at Compression Labs, one of the pioneering companies in the field of digital video compression.
Paddy has a Ph.D. in E.E. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, and a B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi.
Jay Berryhill, Vice President of Sales and Business Development
Jay serves as Vice President of Sales and Business Development at Sling Media. His organization is responsible for worldwide sales, and business development initiatives for Sling Media's products, as well as licensing of Sling technology.
Prior to joining Sling Media, Jay worked for Autodesk, the world's leading design software company. During his tenure there, Jay held key leadership positions as Vice President of Sales for the Collaboration, Manufacturing, and Channel businesses helping drive Autodesk’s revenue to over $2 billion.
Before Autodesk, Jay served as Vice President of Sales at emerging technology companies Live Capital (acquired by Dunn Bradstreet), Encanto Networks (acquired by Lucent), and RedCart Technologies.
Jay also spent eight years at Motorola where he was Vice President of Sales for the Information Systems Group where he ran the field and channels organization for the market leading data communication business. He began his career at General Electric in the Commercial and Industrial Sectors advancing in management responsibility at several locations across the United States.
Jay holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the University of Alabama.
Jay Tannenbaum, Vice President of Marketing
As Vice President of Marketing, Jay is responsible for messaging and branding, creative development, channel marketing and the corporate web site. Jay has over twenty years of experience in all aspects of advertising, marketing and television production, and he has an in-depth knowledge of the Internet and emerging computer and broadcast technologies.
Prior to Sling Media he held marketing positions at Simple Star, Pinnacle Systems and was Chief Creative Officer at shockwave.com. At CKS Partners, he was Executive Creative Director, where his clients included Apple Computer, Nike, IBM, Mattel, Compaq, NBC and Disney.
As an independent filmmaker he has worked on over five hundred television commercials, hundreds of corporate films, and over sixty hours of network television. He has also worked as a writer, editor and creative consultant for clients such as PBS, Landor Associates, Guthy Renker, The National Gallery, Harvard Business School, Kellogg School of Business, National Geographic and Fortune Magazine.
Jay has BA and MA degrees in Film from the University of Iowa.
Raman Venkatachar, General Manager – India Operations
Raman is the General Manager and head of operations for Sling Media in Bangalore, India. He has extensive experience in building and managing teams that deliver products in the digital media space, with 18 plus years of industry experience, of which more than 14 years were in the consumer electronics domain.
Prior to Sling Media, Raman was a Delivery Head for Embedded Projects in the Consumer Electronics and Semiconductor Vertical for Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). He has worked extensively on the design and development of software for consumer electronics products such as set-top boxes, DVD players, DVDR-HDD recorders, Blu-ray players, digital TV, and so on, at companies such as Philips Electronics, LSI Logic and TCS. He started his career as a Hardware Design Engineer, moving on to Software Design and Development, Software Project and Program Management, and Product Quality Management.
Raman received his B.Tech. in Electronics Engineering from the University of Mysore in India and his M.B.A. from XIME in Bangalore, India.
