Sling Media, Inc. is a digital lifestyle products company creating a family of consumer electronics products that are a natural extension of today’s digital lifestyle. The first member of the Sling Media family is the award winning Slingbox™, a device that allows consumers to watch and control their living room television at any time, from any location, via the Internet and a computer, PDA, or mobile phone. Sling Media is located in San Mateo, CA.

Sling Media is currently seeking a full-time Beta Program Manager & QA Liaison. This position reports into the Customer Experience team, reporting directly to the Beta Program Manager. The spirit of the job is two-fold: (1) to manage Beta Programs on a daily basis, and (2) to spearhead special efforts as needed to ensure high quality product development for Sling Media’s customers. The latter responsible will take the form of spearheading cross-functional efforts to resolve particularly challenging issues. The amount of time spent in each of these roles will fluctuate, based on the volume of beta programs during a given quarter.

Responsibilities

Beta Program Management responsibilities include:

  • Scope program effort, including timeline & resources (with help from the Beta Program Manager)
  • Create and maintain each program’s online database/wiki
  • Routinely test products for readiness and alert cross-functional team of flagged items
  • Recruit and screen beta applicants
  • Coordinate beta equipment fulfillment
  • Manage beta feedback:
    • Provide Tier 1 support (min.) for all testers
    • Host regular bug scrub meetings
    • Track all beta issues through to resolution
    • Consolidate feedback into reports for cross-team distribution
  • Manage all communications with internal and external testers
  • Work with cross-functional team to identify show-stoppers and Knowledge Base articles
  • Assign ratings to beta testers at the end of each program, based on standard criteria
  • Manage beta equipment returns and award fulfillment
  • Help manage the beta mailbox
  • Assist the Beta Manager with special projects as needed

Quality Assurance Liaison responsibilities include:

  • Identify and track key product concerns via hands-on testing, beta programs, and customer care reports
  • Drive cross-functional team to resolve these key issues
  • Provide Tier 3 support to beta testers/ customers on an as-needed basis across multiple beta programs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 7+ yrs professional experience involving project management (or similar)
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Strong organizational skills/ ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to motivate and work well with technical and non-technical testers
  • Cross-functional team management experience a must
  • A good understanding of these depts is helpful: Engr, QA, Product Management, Marketing, PR, Legal, and Exec Staff
  • Sensitivity to various cultural communication and working styles is helpful
  • Ability to work independently
  • Avid interest in Sling Media technology and other digital lifestyle products
  • Technical familiarity with networking basics and AV equipment
  • Must have a working knowledge of MS Office products
  • Technical familiarity with basic software engineering practices (e.g. build process)
  • Prefer working knowledge of Centercode Beta Management software
  • A sense of humor is a big plus
