Job Title: Director of Project Management Location: North America - Foster City, CA Department: Operations Reports To: Chief Operating Officer
Sling Media is seeking a Director to lead the Project Management Office at Sling Media. The PMO is comprised of the technical project managers that lead and drive all of Sling Media's projects. These projects include customer facing hardware, software and services, as well as internal back office applications and infrastructure to support our rapid growth. Current examples of these projects include mobile software applications, desktop software applications, consumer electronics products as well as content services, technology integration, website development and enhancements.
The PMO team works closely with business colleagues in Product Management, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, User Experience, IT, Operations, and Finance to work through business strategies, technology solution concepts, business cases, requirements, user interfaces, client and internal facing reports and tools, testing and project implementations.
The Position:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Project Management Office is the principal driver of project leadership, management and oversight on behalf of all Sling Media products. The projects may be global, internal or local strategic initiatives that require corporate guidance and oversight due to the nature and scope of the project objectives. Projects vary depending on size and scope and will require flexibility and may require tailored project management solutions. This position requires day to day management of project team personnel, communication with key stakeholders and subject matter experts to ensure successful project execution. This role will also include direct interaction with a broad range of senior technical, functional and customer management and subject matter experts throughout the organization.
Key responsibilities of PMO include:
- Create and maintain a formal Project Management Office for Sling.
- Manage a team of project managers distributed throughout the organization and help provide career growth opportunities for team members.
- Conduct regular Project Priorities meeting with Exec staff.
- Implement standard practices and policies with team of project managers throughout the organization.
- Provide tools and processes for project and resource management across the entire company.
- Interface will project sponsors to insure proper project management processes are implement and being utilized effectively.
- Oversees the entire project cycle, from definition and scoping to project approval to project closure . Delivers effective project oversight and control . Manages the 8 Knowledge areas of Project Management on each project including: Scope, Time, Cost, Resources, Risk, Communication, Project Integration, and Quality.
- Develop a set of Project Management best-practices - including processes for the entire project life cycle from conception through deployment and maintenance.
- Work with Resource Managers to create a mechanism for accurate resource allocation across the organization which can be available at any time.
- Ensures compatibility and consistency across Sling Media products . Define and manage overall change control processes and quality assurance aspects of the project to ensure project success.
- Develops, clarifies and manages the scope of the project, defines contract deliverables and achieves targeted outcomes.
- Assembles project team, identifies needed resources, assigns responsibilities and develops timeframes to facilitate successful completion of project activities and deliverables
- Identifies on a timely basis all project barriers and identifies strategies and approaches to overcome these barriers.
- Completes and manages project activities using an industry standard project management process and approach to ensure a consistent approach to project completion with other similar projects within the organization.
The Director PMO will require the following skills:
- Bachelors Degree in computer science/applied mathematics required or related experience. Masters degree is a plus.
- Demonstrates experience (7+ years) of increasing responsibilities within a global, multi-location organization.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills, including the proven ability to adapt to a dynamic project environment and manage multiple projects.
- A global perspective with the ability to understand and work effectively in a culturally diverse organization.
- The proven ability to manage key stakeholder interests in an ambivalent culture while at the same time managing conflicting priorities and business interests.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities such as conflict/issue resolution.
- Ability to communicate (verbally and written) effectively with clients, stakeholders and senior leadership.
- Ability to organize and work effectively with project teams of staff from department and clients participating in this effort .
- Detailed understanding of the product life cycle for hardware and software development.
- Experience in fast-paced, matrixed technical development organizations.
- PMI Certification
