Installing the plug-in

Here's how to install the web browser plug-in for Watch on

First, if you aren't sure if your browser is supported by Watch on, check the related article below, What browsers and systems are supported by Watch on

After you've determined that the browser you're using will work, go to the Watch on site at ... or just click Watch from the home page ... to get started.


For Internet Explorer

  1. Go to
    You see the Software License Agreement. Click Accept.
  2. Confirm that your computer meets the system requirements, then click Download Now.
  3. When you see a yellow bar at the bottom of your screen, click Run.
  4. Click Yes to allow the installation.
    The Web Setup Wizard appears.
  5. Click Next, and then click Next again to start setup.
  6. If you see a message that Internet Explorer is running, click Yes to allow Setup to close it.
  7. Follow the remaining instructions to complete the plug-in installation.

For Firefox

  1. Go to
    You see the Software License Agreement. Click Accept.
  2. Follow the onscreen instructions ... click Allow in the box that appears.
  3. When the Software Installation window opens, click Install Now.
  4. After the software installs, in the Add-ons box, click Restart Firefox. Allow Firefox to restart.
  5. The plug-in is installed.

For Chrome

  1. Go to
    You see the Software License Agreement. Click Accept.
  2. Click Install Plug-in.
    The Add to Chrome box appears.
  3. Click Add.
  4. The plug-in is installed.


For Safari, Firefox, and Chrome

  1. Go to
    You see the Software License Agreement. Click Accept.
  2. Click Download Now.
  3. Click OK to download the SlingPlayer plug-in file.
    This process downloads the SlingPlayer plug-in's disk image file (.DMG) in this location:

    [HARD DISK]/Users/[username]/Downloads

  4. If the download doesn't happen automatically, locate and double-click the DMG file. This mounts the installer.
  5. Double-click the installer package.
  6. Answer any questions, and click Continue as needed to complete the installation.
  7. Allow the plug-in installation to complete, relaunch your browser, then connect to your Slingbox via Watch on
  8. After the first launch of Watch on, if activation is necessary, follow the instructions that appear.

Removing the plug-in

You should not need to remove the SlingPlayer plug-in, but if you do, follow these directions:


For Internet Explorer

  1. Launch Internet Explorer.
  2. Choose Manage add-ons from the Tools menu (the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the browser screen).
  3. For Add-on Types, choose Toolbars and Extensions.
  4. Below that, for the Show drop-down menu, choose All add-ons.
  5. Find SlingPlayer Class in the list, under Sling Media. Click to select it.
    Additional details appear below the list.
  6. Within this group of additional details, click More information.
    The More information box appears.
  7. Midway down in this box, you can see that the SlingPlayer plug-in's actual file is listed under File; its folder location is listed under Folder.
  8. Open a Windows Explorer window and navigate to the folder.
  9. Locate the SlingPlayer plug-in file, and then delete it.
  10. Go back to Internet Explorer, close any open dialog boxes, and then close all Internet Explorer windows.
  11. The plug-in is removed.

For Firefox

  1. Launch Firefox.
  2. Choose Add-ons from the Tools menu.
  3. Click the Extensions tab on the left.
  4. Click the WebSlingPlayer Add-on, and click Remove.
  5. The plug-in is removed.

For Chrome

Removing the Chrome plug-in is not a simple procedure. If you are unsure of any of the following instructions, it's likely best not to attempt it.
  1. Launch Chrome.
  2. In the address bar, instead of a web address, type chrome://plugins
    Press Return. The Plug-ins page displays.
  3. In the upper-right corner of the screen, click + Details.
  4. Scroll down to SlingPlayer Web Plug-in, and look for Location.
  5. Using your pointer, drag to select the file location. Right-click and choose Copy, or press Ctrl-C.
  6. Open a Windows Explorer window, and paste the file location into it. Do not press Return yet.
  7. Delete the file name at the end of the text you pasted. It ends in .dll, and is likely something like npSlingPlayerChrome.dll.
  8. Press Return.
    You see the various plug-in files. You need to delete this entire folder.
  9. Note the name of the folder you're now viewing ... it is probably plugins.
  10. Move up one folder, and then delete the folder you were just viewing.
  11. Confirm that you want to remove this folder.
  12. The plug-in is removed.


For Safari, Firefox and Chrome

  1. Quit the browser that you're using.
  2. Locate the SlingPlayer plug-in file. You can find it in this location on your Mac's hard disk:

    [HARD DISK]/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/SlingPlayer.plugin

  3. To get there, open a Finder window, then open your hard disk folder.
  4. Open the Library folder.
  5. Open the Internet Plug-Ins folder.
  6. Find the SlingPlayer.plugin file, and delete it.
  7. Close any Finder windows, and re-launch Safari, Firefox, or Chrome.
